Ingredient spotlight: coconut oil fragrance

If you’ve tried our Rehydration Cream, you may have noted the faintest scent of coconut. How did we get this scent if we don’t use essential oils or parfum in our products?

Well, first of all, we are really, really tired of essential oils in every other natural moisturizer on the market. It's one thing to have them in rinse off products, but many brands don't understand the strict essential oil legal dermal limits of leave on products and are putting in way too much in their moisturizers so that they cause slow sensitization of the skin. If you've tried a moisturizer with a lavender, rosemary and tea tree oil and then switch to another brand that has lavender, orange and tea tree, you are sensitizing your skin to the chemical allergens in lavender over and over: linalyl acetate, linalool, Cis beta ocimene, and many others. Eventually you will have to keep switching moisturizers because the amount your skin can tolerate gets less and less over time. This is what slow sensitizing means. It may not be the first or second cream, but the 4th or 5th one that causes redness and irritation. You might blame that 5th cream, but it was the cumulative effect over time, not the last one you used.

When everyone and their grandmothers use essential oils you know it's time to move on to something new.  How then, can we scent our products naturally without these?

There is a way to extract different aromatic compounds for plants (or leaves, stems, soil, bark, seeds) that we cannot get essential oils from Essential oils cannot be made from coconuts so there is no such thing as a coconut essential oil.  However we wanted the creamy, dreamy scent of island coconut and did not want to use a synthetic fragrance. But isolate the aromatic compounds of several different plants and re-combine them to get a new scent... It isn’t an essential oil, it isn’t a synthetic fragrance, but it is an all-natural fragrance.

Our plant based fragrance oils is certified to be free of synthetics. They contain natural aromatic isolates such as vanillin and geraniol, derived directly from the raw botanical sources, recombined to make a beautiful new natural fragrance. There are no lab synthesized ingredients and no phthalates.

Our pure, unadulterated coconut oil scent is 100% natural just like an essential oil but without the harsh allergens and volatile compounds found in essential oils.. It is perfect for anyone who wants an all natural scent that is not found in the essential oil world.
